Find Wayne County Civil Court Dockets

For a Wayne County civil court dockets search, start with the state's online case system and turn to the Wayne County Clerk when a pleading, an older event, or a certified copy is not on the web. Wayne County civil court dockets list the public steps of a noncriminal case: filings, service, motions, hearings, orders, and judgments. Money disputes, property, contracts, small claims, and public parts of family cases all land here. Read entries in order, though. A complaint is not a judgment, a motion is not an order, and a hearing date says nothing about the outcome.

Wayne County Civil Docket Codes

Every Wayne County civil court docket carries a two-character type code, and Indiana Administrative Rule 8 sets it. Civil plenary is PL, tort is CT. Civil collection is CC, mortgage foreclosure is MF, and eviction is EV. Small claims is SC. Family matters split three ways: DC for domestic relations with children, DN without children, and DR for older cases. PO marks a protection order. The remaining codes, MH, AD, GV, MI, and XP, cover other distinct categories.

Code groupExamplesWhat to check
General civilPL, CT, CCComplaint, service, motion, order, judgment
PropertyMF, EVCase code, possession order, later damages
Lower-dollar claimSCSuperior 3 routing and setting
FamilyDC, DN, DRPublic events and restricted documents

A code only sorts the filing. It never tells you which party won. A synthetic cause number like 89D01-2602-PL-000123 displays the court, filing month, type, and sequence without matching any live matter.

Civil Dockets: What They Show

Look through a Wayne civil CCS and you may see a complaint or petition, a summons, service, an answer, a counterclaim, counsel appearances, discovery events, motions, case-management orders, mediation, a hearing, trial, judgment, garnishment, proceedings supplemental, an appeal, or satisfaction. The event list is not the full case file. MyCase may link a public order while a pleading sits only with the clerk.

Court and causeThe Wayne court code and unique case number.
Filing eventA document received by the clerk, not proof its claims are true.
ServiceIssue or return of formal notice to a party.
SettingPretrial, motion, damages, or trial date when posted.
OrderThe judge's ruling, distinct from the motion requesting it.
Judgment statusOutcome and possible later appeal or satisfaction entries.

The clerk keeps two more formal sets: the Record of Judgments and Orders and the Judgment Docket. Each serves a purpose the CCS index does not. Name the exact document when you order a copy.

Wayne County Civil Docket Clerks

Wayne County runs one clerk's office with separate civil lines per court. Circuit civil is 765-973-9221. Superior 1 is 765-973-9217, Superior 2 is 765-973-9216, and Superior 3 small claims is 765-973-9202. The main Wayne County Clerk line is 765-973-9220. Calling the right court first saves time. The cause number already points there.

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The clerk's records access instructions lead to an electronic request form. List the court, cause number, case type, filing or event date, document name, number of copies, and whether certification is needed. Copies go out by email, mail, or in-person pickup. Certified copies cannot be emailed, though. The form publishes no processing time, so let the clerk confirm cost and delivery.

Note: Ask the clerk directly about timing and fees. Plan around a copy request only after that.

What Cases Fill the Civil Docket

Wayne Circuit and Superior Courts handle general civil matters, and Wayne Superior Court 3 is the clear local route for small claims. The Wayne County civil docket holds contract and collection cases, tort claims, property and foreclosure matters, evictions, probate-related filings, and public portions of domestic-relations cases. A type code narrows a search, but the CCS and the orders tell you the actual status.

Evictions filed on or after January 1, 2021 carry the EV code. Other disputes between property owners and occupants may show up as SC or CC, depending on the claim. Small-claims hearings happen in the Superior 3 magistrate's courtroom on the first floor, while the small-claims office sits on the courthouse's second floor. Neither location changes where the official file lives.

Privacy limits run tighter for family, adoption, mental-health, juvenile, and protection-order matters. A public case label does not mean every report, address, financial detail, or child-related filing is open to view.

Wayne County Civil Docket Timing

Wayne's local rules shape details that surface only indirectly on a civil docket. Papers go to the clerk, never straight to a judge. A first request to enlarge the answer deadline by up to 45 days is generally granted when properly made, and every later request must state whether it is the first, second, or a later enlargement.

Discovery has hard caps. Interrogatories stop at 25, and requests for admission stop at 30 absent court leave. Even a default may require proof of the amount or a damages hearing. Under the local rule, a summary-judgment motion must be filed at least 150 days before trial. Jury cases run on agreed case-management orders, while bench cases get pretrial scheduling.

Read the event, then the order: a deadline motion, discovery filing, or default request does not show whether the Wayne court granted relief.

Hearings on the Civil Docket

A civil setting can be a status conference, pretrial conference, motion hearing, damages hearing, mediation event, bench trial, or jury trial. The label names the event planned. It does not tell you the event occurred. Nor does it show a ruling, a move, or a cancellation. Later Wayne County civil docket entries carry that story. Look there for a continuance, minute entry, order, judgment, or cancellation.

Wayne local rules require a continuance request to address any opposition and prior continuances. The proposed order leaves the replacement date blank for the court. That practice is why an old setting may remain visible until a new date posts. Confirm a near-term date with the scheduling office shown for the court. When the CCS is unclear, use the full Wayne County court schedule process.

Pretrial
A case-management setting, not the civil trial itself.
Default
A failure to respond that may still require proof or a hearing.
Summary judgment
A request for a ruling without trial under the governing standard.
Satisfaction
An entry indicating that a judgment obligation was met or released.

Wayne County Civil Docket Fees

Wayne charges one amount to file and another to copy. Civil filing is $157. Small claims is $87, probate is $177, and juvenile filing is $176. These figures open or process a case. They are not the price of pulling a copy. A copy comes from an existing Wayne County civil court docket, and it costs separately. The official Wayne fee schedule lists what the clerk collects for each act.

Who Can See Civil Dockets

Indiana Access to Court Records Rule 4 presumes court records are public. Another rule or law can still carve out an exception. Rule 5 shields whole confidential cases, certain documents, and personal fields. Medical and treatment records can be withheld or redacted. So can custody evaluations, guardian ad litem and CASA reports. Account numbers and protected addresses may be withheld too.

The Indiana Access to Public Records Act is another access anchor for Wayne County. Supreme Court court-record rules govern the court file itself. The official Indiana statute source publishes the full text of that law.

The statute does not override specific judicial-record exclusions, sealing orders, or privacy rules.

Extraordinary access: Access to Court Records Rule 9 permits a verified request for excluded material, but it requires the stated showing, notice, and a written court order.

Wayne County Civil Docket Gaps

MyCase may show a Wayne civil order without the complaint or exhibit behind it. Older converted matters often have fewer links. A protection-order case will not behave like a normal name search. Protected identifying data is excluded. A granted expungement can drop from remote access too.

Check the court code, name spelling, status filter, and filing range first. Then try Doxpop as a second index. Still nothing? Call the proper civil clerk or submit the county request form. Ask for the CCS, the exact pleading, or the Record of Judgments and Orders rather than a vague “full record.” For broader search mechanics, the Wayne County docket search explains the available identifiers.

Note: An absent online document proves nothing. It does not mean the pleading was never filed, or that public inspection is barred.
